Hyatt Transfer Shake‑Up: What the Chase Change Means Now

Sapphire Preferred to Hyatt is 4:3 as of Oct. 1, 2026. Here’s the smarter play.

A pivot point for Hyatt loyalists

On October 1, 2026, Chase flipped a switch that matters if you love Hyatt: Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred transfers to World of Hyatt now run at 4:3 instead of 1:1. Overnight, a 25,000‑point Hyatt night costs 33,334 Ultimate Rewards points, not 25,000.

Why this matters — and what changed

Chase confirmed the staggered rollout months ago: new Sapphire Preferred applicants from June 15, 2026 moved to 4:3 immediately; existing Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders followed on October 1, 2026. Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business still transfer to Hyatt at 1:1, with Chase indicating “no planned changes” for those cards. For many travelers, Hyatt remains the most valuable Chase hotel partner, so the differential between 1:1 and 4:3 materially changes where you put your next dollar.

Zooming out, 2026 has been a year of recalibration across programs. American Express ended Membership Rewards transfers to Etihad on June 30, and Bilt posted that its own 1:1 Hyatt transfers will fall to 4:3 on January 1, 2027. Issuers and partners are tightening economics — which makes card choice and timing more consequential.

The math that should drive your next move

Start with the new reality: at 4:3, every 1,000 Chase points becomes 750 Hyatt points. That turns a 15,000‑point off‑peak Category 4 night into a 20,000‑point Ultimate Rewards transfer; a 25,000‑point standard night into 33,334; and a 40,000‑point Category 8 peak night into 53,334. If you routinely book 5‑night stays at 20–25k per night, the gap compounds — think 41,670 to 66,670 more Ultimate Rewards needed per trip than under 1:1.

If you’re considering a new card — why acting now can make sense

None of this is a blanket ad — it’s about timing. Welcome offers and limited‑time credits are levers you can pull as programs evolve. If Hyatt is your north star, get the instrument panel (cards) that still points there at full strength.

Make this strategy automatic with SuperPay

You don’t need a spreadsheet to keep up with shifting transfer partners and limited‑time credits. SuperPay’s Rewards Roadmap (PRO+) builds a personalized, multi‑issuer plan: it flags that Sapphire Preferred→Hyatt is now 4:3, recommends consolidating points to a Sapphire Reserve if you have one, and projects how many nights you can book after a planned Bilt transfer before December 31.

At checkout, SuperPay’s Smart Card Picker tells you exactly which card to use — “Use Sapphire Reserve for dining (Hyatt 1:1 preserved)” or “Route airfare to Venture X Business to trigger the remaining $500 promo credit before Dec. 15.” And our Spending reports quantify the results monthly, so you can see whether your new mix (Reserve + Bilt + Capital One) is producing more Hyatt nights per dollar than before the change.
